The client needed clarity on how professional welders evaluate and choose engine-driven welding equipment. Key questions remained unanswered: which features matter most, how welders trade off those features against price, how equipment gets used and eventually replaced, and what all of this means for product development and positioning. Without this understanding, the client risked building and marketing products based on assumptions rather than real welder priorities.
A Conjoint-Based Study to Map Feature and Price Trade-Offs

We conducted a quantitative conjoint study among 300 professional welders across the USA to directly address these gaps. The research captured welders' equipment preferences, isolated the features with the strongest influence on purchase decisions, quantified trade-offs between features and price, and explored usage and replacement patterns. The result was a clear, data-backed foundation the client could use to prioritise features, sharpen positioning, and guide future product development.
